An internationally beloved Brazilian steakhouse is bringing its tableside churrasco experience to the South Shore.
Fogo de Chão is set to open at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, taking over the former Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse space at 250 Granite Street. The upcoming restaurant will mark the chain’s first South Shore location, adding another dining destination to one of the region’s largest shopping centers.
The Brazilian steakhouse currently operates two locations in Boston’s Back Bay and Burlington, with another Massachusetts outpost planned for the Northshore Mall in Peabody. That location, which was originally expected to open in 2025, is now anticipated to debut this month, according to company representatives.
According to a recent report from Boston’s ROCK 92.9, South Shore Plaza officials said Fogo de Chão’s arrival is part of the property’s broader effort to expand its dining and entertainment offerings and evolve beyond a traditional shopping destination.
“Bringing Fogo de Chão to South Shore Plaza represents a major milestone in the continued evolution of our dining experience,” said Amy Sullivan, director of marketing and business development at South Shore Plaza, in a statement. “Fogo is a destination. It’s a place people choose for birthdays, anniversaries, business dinners and memorable nights out.”
The new restaurant will bring Fogo de Chão’s signature contemporary design to the shopping center, with a full-service bar, dedicated social gathering spaces, and a dining room designed for everything from family celebrations and parties to business meetings and special occasions. And, of course, there will be plenty of meat.
Founded in Brazil in 1979, Fogo de Chão is known for its traditional rodízio churrasco-style dining experience, in which gaucho chefs carve a continuous selection of premium meats tableside. The experience is complemented by the restaurant’s Market Table, featuring seasonal salads, fresh vegetables, and Brazilian-inspired sides.
Fogo de Chão is slated to open at South Shore Plaza in the spring of 2027.
