Portland Leather Goods is preparing to open a new retail store in downtown Birmingham, bringing the brand to the state for the first time. The upcoming location is planned for 157 West Maple Road, according to the company’s website, and is listed as “coming soon”.

A social media announcement from the city said the shop is expected to open this fall. Posted hours for the future location are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The business specializes in high-quality leather bags and accessories. Portland Leather Goods traces its origins to 2016, when founder Curtis Matsko began making leather journals in his garage and started selling at local markets and on Etsy. Within months, it became the platform’s top seller.

Its leather comes from hides sourced from the beef industry, giving the material another use rather than allowing it to go to waste. Those hides are then tanned at facilities that emphasize environmentally conscious practices.

Manufacturing is handled in León, Mexico, where the team created timeless pieces that are sold online and in the company’s retail outlets across the country. Its listed locations include stores, outlets, and boutiques spanning from Atlanta and Austin to Chicago and Seattle, the website shows.
