Stumptown Coffee Roasters to Open Flagship Café in Los Angeles
Stumptown Coffee Roasters is set to open its new flagship café in Lincoln Heights on August 29. The café occupies the former Starland Theater, a historic neighborhood landmark.
Founded in Portland, Oregon, in 1999, the company grew from its first café on Southeast Division Street into a specialty coffee roaster and café operator. The company introduced its Direct Trade sourcing model in 2003 and works directly with coffee producers to source beans for its cafes and retail offerings.
According to a Los Angeles Magazine, the opening marks the brand’s return to central Los Angeles. The brand’s former Arts District café closed in 2024. The new location converts the historic Starland Theater into Stumptown’s LA hub for training and retail café services.
Los Angeles Magazine also reported that Stumptown preserved elements of the theater’s original design. This includes its theater façade and original terrazzo tile while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
