A longtime favorite breakfast staple in Rowley, Massachusetts, has closed permanently. The Village Pancake House confirmed its closure with a social media announcement. The restaurant ended its 23-year journey as the owners decided to retire.
Village Pancake House Shuts Down Permanently
Village Pancake House, also famously known as Stephanie’s Village Pancake House, was a highly rated breakfast destination in the Rowley neighborhood. The restaurant operated from the historic Abraham Jewett House on Main Street in Rowley, which was built around 1660, according to the Boston.com.
The restaurant was operated by Cathy and Ed Sutherby for the last two decades. On September 9, the restaurant owners shared the closure announcement on social media. The owners wrote that Village Pancake House had served as a gathering place for the community for more than two decades.
The owners said that, after thoughtful consideration, they had decided it was time to retire and close this chapter of their lives.
The owners thanked the community and wrote, “Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives and your families for the past 23+ years. We will forever be grateful for the love and support you have shown us.”
Customers React to the Closure
Following the announcement, customers shared their reactions on social media. One customer commented, “Oh my gosh, so sad to hear this news!!”
Other customers congratulated the owners on their retirement and thanked them for their years of service.
Another longtime customer shared a memory of visiting the restaurant with her daughter: “My daughter used to travel from Manchester, New Hampshire, to the Village Pancake House so that she and I could have omelets and pancakes on Mother’s Day. The food was always amazing! Kathy and Ed, I wish you all the best.”
The closure brings an end to the restaurant’s more than 23 years in Rowley.
