A popular New York City restaurant known for its gluten-free menu is expanding to the Upper West Side.

Friedman’s Restaurant, owned by the Phillips family, plans to open at 541-555 Amsterdam Ave., according to Lee & Associates NYC.

The group represented the team in the $4.135 million acquisition of the approximately 5,000-square-foot space. The property also houses Barney Greengrass and Hudson & Charles, both of which will remain in place.

“The group is expanding its footprint in a top location on the Upper West Side, while also keeping a New York institution intact and operating for years to come,” Lee & Associates President Peter Braus said in a statement.

Friedman’s Restaurant first opened in Chelsea Market in 2009 and has since expanded to locations in Battery Park, Hell’s Kitchen, West End, Tribeca, 72nd Street, Herald Square and the Edison Hotel.

The concept was developed after one of the owners was diagnosed with celiac disease and began looking for quality gluten-free food. The team spent considerable time crafting a menu of American classics spanning brunch and dinner, including pancakes, waffles and fried chicken.

Friedman’s Restaurant also offers an extensive coffee program with espresso drinks, along with smoothies and alcoholic beverages.

“Our mantra is simple, ‘Eat good food’ and this is what we strive to deliver to our guests. For us, it has two meanings. Firstly, eat food that tastes good. Secondly, be proud of the food you serve. We know where our food comes from. We communicate regularly with our farmers and are proud to serve antibiotic free meats & local vegetables,” the website reads.

An official opening date has not yet been announced, however, visit the Friedman’s Restaurant website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
