A lively, community-favorite bar and restaurant in Oakland is preparing to shut down. After 9 years of service, Oeste will close its operations next month. The restaurant cited rising operating costs and economic challenges as reasons for the closure.
Oeste Bar Bids Farewell to Oakland Location
Owned and operated by people of color, Oeste, located at 722 Clay Street in Oakland, is a popular spot in the Oakland area. The bar and restaurant is well-known for its vibrant local culture, rooftop deck, and inclusive environment. It offers crafted signature Oeste cocktails and an extensive beer, hard liquor, and wine selection.
The menu created by Chef Sergio Becerra features dishes prepared with fresh and organic ingredients. Oeste serves a blend of Latin, Southern, and Californian flavors. Recommended items include fried chicken sandwich, catfish, and chicken wings.
Through a social media announcement, the restaurant team shared the closure news. The owner wrote, “It is with much sadness that I announce we are likely to close in October.”
Reflecting on its 9-year journey, the owner stated that it was a wonderful experience. “This was an Oakland establishment built on hard work, love, support, and inspiration from the community,” said the owner.
The owner thanked the community, customers, and staff for their support and love over the years.

Reason Behind the Closure
In the closure announcement post, the owner explained that high operational costs and slow economic growth made it difficult to continue the business.
“We are not able to sustain ourselves and continue to nurture the business as we hoped,” stated the owner.
The bar encourages its customers to visit and enjoy one more meal and drink before it permanently closes.
“If we’re going out, we’re going with a bang!!” read the farewell message.
Several longtime customers of the bar expressed their disappointment on social media. One customer commented, “It’s so sad to hear this! I’m sorry.”
As Oeste prepares for its final month of operation, it looks forward to celebrating the farewell journey with the community.
