Hadeem, a California-Jewish restaurant concept from chef Spencer Horovitz, is preparing to open a permanent location in San Francisco’s Lower Haight neighborhood. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the restaurant is expected to open in 2027 at 682 Haight St.
The restaurant follows several years of Hadeem pop-ups, through which Horovitz developed a menu influenced by Jewish food traditions and his California upbringing. Horovitz has family roots connected to Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Romania. Several dishes from the Hadeem pop-ups are expected to continue at the permanent restaurant.
The menu has included dolmas, a scallion pancake knish, matzoh ball soup presented in a gnocchi-inspired format, and chicken prepared with smoked harissa. The restaurant is also expected to incorporate seasonal ingredients and Bay Area influences into its food. The planned concept will operate during different parts of the day, with coffee and babka during the daytime, dinner and drinks in the evening, and brunch on weekends.
Hadeem is expected to take over the space currently occupied by Otra, a Mexican restaurant on Haight Street. Horovitz has worked at several San Francisco restaurants during his career and has used the Hadeem pop-up to develop the concept before moving into a permanent space. The name Hadeem means the echoes in Hebrew and reflects the influence of Horovitz’s family history and personal experiences on the restaurant.
