Baekjeong Black is a new Korean barbecue restaurant opening on September 23 at New York’s 49 West 32nd Street. It is located in Koreatown’s landmarked Martinique New York building. The opening marks the return of the Baekjeong brand to the city after a two-year absence.

Joseph Ko of Circle Hospitality Group is behind the new restaurant. He opened the original Baekjeong in New York 12 years ago. The restaurant will draw on Korean butchery traditions in its Korean barbecue menu.

Baekjeong means ‘butcher’ in Korean, reflecting the brand’s focus on meat and Korean barbecue. The restaurants serve Korean barbecue tableside, with diners grilling beef and pork on built-in table grills. The brand was founded in South Korea in 2003 and opened its first U.S. location in Los Angeles in 2012.

Baekjeong Black will occupy an 8,000-square-foot, two-floor space inside the Martinique New York building. The restaurant will feature historic elements and traditional decor sourced from South Korea.

The new location will offer two separate dining experiences. On the ground floor is Yangban, which is a cocktail bar serving small plates and Korean-inspired versions of classic drinks.

Upstairs, Baekjeong will offer the full Korean barbecue experience. Guests can choose from USDA Prime, dry-aged, and Wagyu beef before their meal.

The new spot will feature Korean barbecue, along with a mix of Korean culture and heritage.

Baekjeong Black returns to New York City with a bigger footprint and a broader Korean barbecue experience. Its dining concepts, premium meat selection, and Korean-inspired design will offer a new take on the brand in Koreatown.
