A global home furnishings powerhouse is bringing its signature affordable style directly to Manhattan with its very first city outpost.
IKEA will open a small-scale store at 529 Broadway in SoHo.
The company offers a wide range of products for bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor spaces, along with lighting, textiles and home accessories. IKEA is recognized for its Scandinavian-inspired designs, space-saving solutions and ready-to-assemble furniture.
Ingvar Kamprad founded IKEA in 1943 at age 17, initially selling items such as pens and wallets. He expanded the business into furniture in 1948, building on the resourcefulness of his home region of Småland, Sweden.
While the upcoming SoHo location will not offer on-or off-street parking, shoppers can refuel at its Swedish Bite eatery, which will serve coffee and snacks during their shopping trips.
The idea for an in-store eatery emerged after Kamprad noticed shoppers often left around lunchtime to find food, interrupting their shopping experience and reducing purchases when hunger struck.
An official opening date has not been announced, but the website lists the store as under construction, with a targeted opening in late fall or winter 2026.
In the meantime, shoppers can visit nearby locations in Brooklyn, Long Island, Paramus and Elizabeth, N.J., or New Haven, Conn.
