La La Land Café is preparing to open its first Miami-area location at 3190 Commodore Plaza in Coconut Grove, taking over the former LoKal restaurant space. Construction is already underway at the site, although the company has not announced an opening date, as reported by Miami New Times.
The incoming café will occupy a storefront previously associated with one of Coconut Grove’s established independent dining spots. LoKal operated at the address for approximately 15 years before closing, leaving a space that is now being converted for a new hospitality concept. Miami New Times reported that news of the incoming tenant prompted mixed reactions from residents, reflecting conversations about the changing character of the neighborhood.
La La Land Café originated in Dallas, Texas, and has developed a recognizable identity through its bright yellow branding, signature cups and social-media-friendly coffee and matcha offerings. The company’s website lists locations across Texas, California, Arizona and Tennessee, including cafes in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Nashville. The Coconut Grove project would mark its entry into the Florida market, according to the report and the company’s location directory.
The brand’s café concept centers on specialty coffee, tea, matcha and food, with an emphasis on creating welcoming community spaces. Its expanding footprint includes both standalone cafes and locations within established retail destinations, according to its official website.
With construction underway at the Commodore Plaza property, the project is moving forward, though prospective customers will have to wait for further details about the opening timeline. Neither an official debut date nor additional information about the Miami location’s operating hours has been announced.
