Jazz club to close on July 31.

After nearly 20 years, Churchill Grounds is shuttering its location neighboring the Fox Theater.

A representative told What Now Atlanta Thursday that the jazz club will close after July 31 and reopen at a new location that has not yet been determined.

Churchill Grounds has consistently been a gem among Atlanta’s nightlife selections since debuting in 1997. The New York-style jazz club has not only featured well-known jazz artists including Freddie Cole, Chico Freeman and Cedar Walton, but also allowed up-and-coming musicians to showcase their talents.

  • We haven’t found a venue yet b/c the cost of relocation is excessive. We need your help in getting the word out about the three benefit concerts this weekend and the crowdfunding activities we’ll be doing to raise money to help move. If you know of a journalist who would like to cover the event, let me know! Thanks, we want to keep jazz music alive in the city.

  • Churchill Grounds should remain in downtown Atlanta. I have performed around this globe and, most of the great venues are located in downtown area of major cities.
