According to public filings, Mi Tradición Bakery is preparing to open a new location at 5403 Cameron Rd. Suite 100, while also relocating its longtime Research Boulevard operation into a newly constructed building at 8828 Research Blvd. The bakery specializes in traditional Mexican baked goods, including pan dulce, cakes, pastries, and breads inspired by recipes from Puebla, Mexico.
Owner Jesus “Chuy” Guevara told WhatNow Austin that the Cameron Road store is targeting a late June opening, while the new Research Boulevard facility is expected to begin operating during the second week of July, pending final city approvals.
The expansion marks a significant step for the family-owned bakery, which has built a following in Austin through its traditional Mexican baked goods, including pan dulce, cakes, pastries, and breads inspired by recipes from Puebla, Mexico. Guevara told WhatNow Austin that both projects are part of a broader effort to grow the business while staying rooted in the traditions that shaped it from the beginning.
The company’s growth traces back to Guevara’s decades-long career in baking. Before launching his own business in 2009, he trained at the Culinary Institute of America and worked for Texas food companies including Central Market and Mandola’s. Baking also runs in the family, he said, with both his father and grandfather working as bakers before him.
Cameron Road
According to Guevara, the new Cameron Road location was selected because of its position between established Hispanic neighborhoods and the rapidly growing Mueller area. “If you’re facing the location, on your left-hand side most of the people are the Hispanic population,” Guevara told WhatNow Austin. “On the right-hand side, we have Mueller. I want to bring both clients.”
In addition to the bakery’s signature breads and pastries, the Cameron Road store is expected to serve tortas and tacos. Quesadillas could be added later depending on available space, though the initial focus will remain on the bakery’s core offerings.
Research Boulevard
At the same time, Mi Tradición is preparing to move its Research Boulevard bakery from 8716 Research Blvd. Suite 290 into a custom-built facility at 8828 Research Blvd. Located just down the corridor from the current store, the new building will replace the existing location once the transition is complete.
While the bakery has operated for years in the area, Guevara said the new property represents something different: a space designed specifically for the business rather than an adapted retail storefront. “We’re going to close the existing one and move to the other one,” Guevara told WhatNow Austin.
About Mi Tradicion
The bakery originally operated under the name Panadería Chuy before renaming as Mi Tradición. Actually, the company operates locations on Research Boulevard and 801 E. William Cannon Dr. Suite 125, with the Cameron Road opening and Research Boulevard relocation set to further expand its footprint across Austin.
Mi Tradición remains a family-owned operation led by Jesus Guevara, his wife Imelda, and their children. As the bakery continues to grow, he hopes the new locations will introduce more people to the traditions that inspired the business from the start.
