Dick’s Sporting Goods is planning a new 55,000-square-foot store in Bastrop’s Burleson Crossing East shopping center, at Edward Burleson Lane. Construction is scheduled to begin December 2026, with completion targeted for December 2027, which points to an opening around early 2028.
The project is a privately funded, ground-up build valued at about $11 million, covering both the building shell and the full interior buildout. A store of that size is a full-format Dick’s, with room for the athletic apparel, footwear and equipment the chain sells across baseball, basketball, golf, fishing and fitness.
The retailer’s arrival was hinted at publicly in mid-September, when Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo-Trevino referred during the city’s State of the City address to “a store that rhymes with Rick’s that sells baseballs and those kinds of things.” Community Impact reported the teaser while covering infrastructure extensions needed for the development’s second phase.
Burleson Crossing East spans nearly 20 acres and builds on the original Burleson Crossing, which opened in 2008. Its first phase, developed by Durhman & Bassett Realty Group, brought in Sprouts Farmers Market, PetSmart, Longhorn Steakhouse and First Watch. The two-phase development is projected to create more than 300 jobs and contribute about $1.4 million a year to Bastrop’s general fund through property and sales taxes.
The center sits within a larger wave of growth along SH 71, where roughly 500 acres of mixed-use development is planned over a three-mile stretch, including projects like Sendero and Bastrop West. Dick’s, which has grown to more than 800 stores nationwide, would add a major sporting goods option for a city that has been drawing a steady stream of national retailers and restaurants.
