A new dining destination is headed to the South Shore.
Local real estate investor, attorney, and Hingham resident Jeff Greenman (Greenman Industries) has acquired the former 3,000-square-foot commercial property at 44 North Street in downtown Hingham, according to a recent social media update from the town. The space, formerly home to Hingham Furniture & Design, is being reimagined as an as-yet-unnamed upscale restaurant.
While the concept is still coming into focus, early hints point toward an elevated American menu. Details on specific dishes and an opening timeline remain under wraps for now.
What is taking shape, however, is the space itself. Greenman plans to open and expand the rear of the building to create a more flexible footprint that accommodates both indoor and outdoor dining. At street level in the front, he envisions a more intimate layout featuring private dining rooms and event spaces designed for gatherings and special occasions.
“We love living in Hingham because of the real sense of community we found here,” Greenman said in a statement to the town. “Downtown has always been high on my radar, the vibe is amazing. It’s special to see people walking around, shopping, eating, and hanging out at our locally owned businesses. It’s truly unique and not something we’ve found elsewhere – having lived across the country.”
According to Downtown Hingham, Greenman’s plans are still in the early stages, but initial conversations with the town have been positive. If everything goes according to plan, the restaurant could open “in the coming years.”
Meanwhile, Hingham Furniture & Design has already relocated to a nearby Cohasset space, where it continues operating as an interior design studio, furniture retailer, and custom framing shop.
