A longtime local ice cream favorite is getting ready to serve up scoops in Westwood.
Ron’s Gourmet Ice Cream is expanding with a third location, taking over the former Juicygreens space at 305 Washington Street in the town’s Islington neighborhood, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. The family-owned creamery recently confirmed the news in a social media announcement.
“We’ve been keeping a pretty big secret,” the team wrote. “Our THIRD location is in the works!”
The business traces its roots back to 1976, when Ron Covitz opened Ron’s Ice Cream & Bowling in Hyde Park. 50 years later, the family-run destination—now operated by Ron’s son, Jay—continues to pair handcrafted ice cream with candlepin bowling. The company expanded to Dedham Square in 1999, where its second location recently debuted a major renovation before reopening in late May.
At the new Westwood shop, customers can expect the same lineup of handcrafted ice cream that has earned Ron’s a loyal following. The menu features both year-round favorites and seasonal specialties, with flavors ranging from Oreo, Mint Chip, and Peanut Butter Explosion to Watermelon, Apple Pie, Pumpkin, and Peppermint Stick. In addition to cones, sundaes, shakes, and ice cream cakes, the shops also offer beer on tap, hard seltzers, and canned wine for adult visitors.
In a Facebook reel from the Westwood Media Center, Select Board chair Marianne LeBlanc Cummings mentioned that the board recently approved a new Common Victualler license for Ron’s Gourmet Ice Cream. The new location is expected to open in late summer 2026. Jay briefly confirmed the news with What Now Boston, but he has not yet shared additional details.
Juicygreens closed at the Washington Street space on June 30. However, the health-focused eatery continues to operate seven locations across Greater Boston, serving cold-pressed juices, smoothies, power bowls, and other plant-based fare.
