A growing group of casual Mexican restaurants is heading to the southern suburbs of Boston.
Santa Fe Burrito Grill is preparing to open a new location in the former site of Sartorio Recipe at 577 Washington St in Stoughton, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. The concept has been steadily expanding across Greater Boston since its founding in 2018.
Although owner Hector Angel—who also operates Mexica Burrito Grill in Tewksbury and Billerica—could not immediately be reached for comment, he has previously emphasized the brand’s commitment to staying hands-on as it grows.
“We are not a chain,” he told What Now Boston. “We are family-owned, and we make everything from scratch every day… We don’t use freezers; we don’t use frozen foods. We try to be fast, fresh, and affordable.”
That philosophy is emphasized across the menu, which spotlights build-your-own staples like burritos, bowls, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and salads. Fan favorites include the steak burrito, carnitas burrito, and chicken al pastor bowl, alongside sides like chips with queso and fresh churros or flan for dessert.
While most Santa Fe Burrito Grill locations lean casual, with over-the-counter beer and margaritas available, the Malden and Melrose eateries offer full bars. It’s not yet clear what format the Stoughton location will take, and an official opening timeline has not been announced.
When it debuts, the new restaurant will join existing Santa Fe Burrito Grill outposts in Malden, Franklin, Weymouth, Rockland, Acton, East Boston, Melrose, Revere, and North Reading.
