An American footwear and apparel brand is returning to downtown Boston.

Skechers is set to open a new location in the heart of downtown at 477-481 Washington Street before the end of July 2026, according to a recent LinkedIn post from District Manager Jason Martinez and a related Indeed job listing for the upcoming store. The opening marks a return for the brand after a previous downtown Boston location recently closed.

“Skechers is thrilled to announce the opening of our new Boston, Massachusetts store in July 2026 and we want YOU to be part of our founding team! 🎊” reads the LinkedIn post.

The new storefront continues the company’s long-running expansion across major U.S. retail corridors, leaning into its “Comfort Technology” positioning as it grows its brick-and-mortar footprint.

Founded in 1992 by Robert Greenberg and his son Michael Greenberg in Manhattan Beach, California, Skechers originally began as a distributor of Dr. Martens footwear before pivoting into its own label focused on casual, streetwear-inspired shoes. Over time, the brand evolved, and it has since become a global leader in comfort and performance footwear.

Today, Skechers operates as a Fortune 500 company with products sold in more than 180 countries and territories. According to the company, its collections are available through department and specialty retailers, direct-to-consumer channels, and approximately 5,170 company- and third-party-owned physical retail stores worldwide.

The company oversees its international operations through a network of wholly owned subsidiaries, joint ventures, and distribution partners. In Massachusetts, nearby Skechers retail and Skechers Warehouse Outlet locations can currently be found in Springfield, Natick, Saugus, Everett, and Worcester.

A representative for Skechers told What Now Boston that additional details about the Washington Street location are forthcoming, so stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available.
