Chef Eric and Carly Hara, owners of Barnyard Chicken, announced their grand opening in Park Circle on Friday, August 9 at 4262 Spruill Avenue.

With a bevy of chicken preparations and side dishes, Chef Hara’s signature dish, the brick chicken, is the focal point of the menu. Also-known-as, chicken under a brick, the brick chicken is named from the technique of cooking the chicken under pressure to provide a crispy brined skin, with a tender and juicy inside.

Barnyard Chicken has partnered with local nonprofit and community service organization, Park Circle Cares, for their opening. From Friday, August 9 through Friday, August 23, all orders of the brick chicken will donate a portion of proceeds to Park Circle Cares in support of their mission to fight food insecurity in the local community.

“We are so grateful for the warm welcome that we’ve received from the Park Circle community,” shared Chef Eric Hara in a statement. “It has been very special for me to shape this concept into something fun for both our team and our future patrons. We’re looking forward to opening day and furthering our connections with the community.”

Born and raised in Southern California, Chef Hara decided to follow his passion for the culinary arts at the young age of 16. Spending most of his career in fine dining in Southern California and New York City, Chef Hara has over 25 years of experience as a chef and restaurateur, and studied most notably under Michel Richard and David Burke. After retiring to Costa Rica in 2019, Chef Hara and his family have returned to the United States and settled in the Lowcountry to make the brick chicken at home in Charleston.

Chef Hara blended his years of experience in modern American cuisine and cultural influences from Southern California, Central America, and other global travels to create the opening menu for Barnyard Chicken. The menu’s star, the brick chicken, is a testament to Chef Hara’s knack for reinventing traditional, or otherwise familiar dishes, into something unique. Other items include sticky wings, chicken liver toast, bacon wrapped chicken breast, garlic noodles, and jalapeño-cheddar grit arancini. The menu will consist of shareable plates, main dishes, salads, sides, and CT’s Milk Pie for dessert.

Barnyard Chicken will be open for lunch and dinner service Tuesday through Thursday from 11 am to 8 pm and Friday to Saturday from 11 am to 9 pm. Barnyard Chicken will be closed Sunday and Monday. Barnyard Chicken will be first come, first served and will not accept reservations. Take out will be available via online ordering and the take-out window at the restaurant.
