An ice cream shop known for its extravagant sundaes is set to make its South Carolina debut this summer.

The Scoop N Scootery will open at 2414 Devine St. in Columbia, led by franchise owner Emmett Morrison.

“I’m from Columbia. I’ve always been passionate about bringing brands that I think would be valuable to Columbia. I think we’ve been historically underserved in the ice cream space, no pun intended,” Morrison told What Now Charleston.

With this in mind, Morrison connected with the brand’s Charlotte franchisee, Patrick Knorring, to learn more about it.

“He introduced me to the brand. The ice cream is delicious. The sundaes are great. I just think it’s going to be something that will be really great to bring to Columbia. I’m definitely proud to be the first,” he said.

Founder Austin Crittenden launched The Scoop N Scootery in Massachusetts in 2014, and the brand has since grown to eight locations

The Columbia location will offer the same decadent sundaes, with unique names like “Fudge Judy,” “Fluffington Post” and “Off Pudding.” One of Morrison’s favorites is the “Four Horsemen,” which features peanut butter Oreo ice cream with a brownie core, topped with doughy sugar cookie bites, chocolate chip cookie bites, crushed Oreo and fudge.

The key difference with this new location will be the addition of seating.

“Traditionally, the model is a lot more takeout/delivery oriented. A lot of the locations don’t have much customer seating. We’re going to be offering indoor as well as outdoor seating. We’re trying to create a place where people can cool down with a sundae,” Morrison said.

Morrison is eagerly anticipating the grand opening.

“Seeing folks’ faces when they receive these beautiful sundaes, and watching their jaws drop to the floor and being like ‘Wow! This is great! I can’t wait to have more of that experience and I can’t wait to get people acquainted with our brand, getting them eating ice cream,’” he said.

The team is targeting an August opening, just in time for students to return to school. Morrison also said they are eyeing potential locations for future expansion.
