Florida-based Southern Grounds & Co. is preparing to enter the Charlotte market, with plans for locations in both Dilworth and Plaza Midwood. According to the Charlotte Business Journal, founder Mark Janasik recently confirmed that the company has signed letters of intent for the two neighborhoods.
The publication reported that leases have not yet been finalized. If the projects move forward, the proposed cafés would represent Southern Grounds’ first locations outside Florida and mark the brand’s entry into North Carolina.
Founded in 2016 in Neptune Beach, Florida, Southern Grounds operates a hybrid coffee shop, bakery, and restaurant concept. According to the company’s website, the brand serves specialty coffee beverages alongside a menu of breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, bowls, burgers, pastries, and other café fare.
Janasik told the Charlotte Business Journal that Charlotte emerged as a strong fit for the company’s next phase of growth after an extended search of potential expansion markets. Access to regional food producers and the city’s proximity to Southern Grounds’ existing footprint were among the factors that influenced the decision.
According to Southern Grounds’ website, the company emphasizes locally sourced ingredients and neighborhood-focused hospitality across its locations. The brand also operates alongside Blueberry Bakery, a companion concept that supplies many of the baked goods and menu items served in its cafés.
If both deals move forward, the Charlotte cafés would further expand Southern Grounds’ growing presence across the Southeast. Additional details, including specific addresses and opening timelines, have not yet been announced. WhatNow Charlotte will provide updates as more information becomes available.
