According to an article from Evanston Roundtable, La Cocinita will soon move locations in Evanston to 521 Davis Street.
“Our planned opening date will be in September. We are expanding our Venezuelan options, so there will be more arepa and empanada options. We are also adding a cocktail menu and beer/wine, as well as a weekend brunch menu,” co-owner Rachel Angulo told What Now Chicago.
“We are also expanding our focus on folks with allergies and dietary restrictions, so there will be more vegan options and we will have a separate GF fryer to avoid cross-contamination for folks with celiac.”
“My husband, Benoit, is the other co-owner and chef. Benoit is a chef from Venezuela and I am a social worker from Wilmette. We met working at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans. I loved his arepas (and him!) and so when he pitched the idea of starting a food truck together when we first started dating, I was all for it.”
“We opened our first truck in NOLA in 2011, then moved back to Wilmette and opened our first food truck up here in 2014. We opened our first restaurant in Evanston in 2016 (our current space, which we will transition out of when we move into the new space on Davis St).”
“We then opened a stall in a food hall in NOLA in 2018 and opened a second truck in Evanston in 2022. We are now expanding into a bigger space around the corner from our original location, at the same time as our first stand-alone restaurant in NOLA. Lots of exciting things going on here at La Cocinita!”
