Omakase Shoji Set to Make Debut in the West Town Area

"Omakase" means "I'll leave it up to you" or "chef's choice," while "Shoji" refers to a type of sliding paper door or room divider in traditional Japanese architecture.

According to a recent permit filing, Omakase Shoji will soon open its doors in the West Town area at 1641 W Chicago Ave.

A representative of Omakase Shoji was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Chicago’s request.

While an official opening date and overall information on what Omakase plans to provide, according to the permit filing, Omakase Shoji comes from Omakase Shoji Corporation.

According to Chicago’s business search and the permit, Sandy Yang is listed as the business manager. Omakase Shoji Corporations was incorporated at the beginning of this year, back in March.

For the property itself, according to Loop Net, the building was originally built in 1919 with renovations being done in 2015. The approximate leasing area that is listed is 4,000 square feet.

Loop Net goes on to state, “Fully built restaurant! Available for lease! Amazing, architecturally interesting, completely rebuilt, 80% new construction! The 1st-floor restaurant has 1,800 approximate square feet of space plus 800 approximate square feet of basement (for storage and prep).”

“The property boasts 15-foot ceilings, terrazzo floors, black iron, an open floor plan, 2 ADA baths, and loads of green features! PLUS an amazing 600+ approximate square feet rooftop deck (the building was upzoned and is being used for dining with food/liquor use.)”
