Irving Park’s Color Club is opening its doors to public events. The art studio and community center, located at 4146 North Elston Avenue, is in the process of expanding the types of events it can host with applications for new permits — most recently a liquor license application filed on Sept. 28.

If all the licensing goes through, Color Club will be able to hold public events in its building tavern, ballroom and museum areas, according to Block Club Chicago. Color Club co-owner Abby Monroe told What Now Chicago in an email that the permits likely won’t be finalized until mid-November. When they are, the space hopes to bring on comedy shows, retreats, dance and art classes, poetry readings and more.

In the meantime, Color Club already holds some small dance classes in the space, including tango lessons on Wednesday nights, Ethnic Dance Chicago on Friday nights and embodied movement classes on Sundays. Its studio and gallery space are home to the work of 16 artists in residence, whose mediums range from photography and videography to painting and ceramics.

Color Club’s tavern, ballroom and museum events can already be booked for private events, and offers off-site event management as well. Rates start at $75 per hour to hold a class in the ballroom, $50 an hour for its tavern or $30 per hour for its classroom. Color Club also offers a team of event specialists to help with coordinating events on or off its premises.

What Now Chicago will update this story with more information as the permitting process is finalized. Keep up with Color Club on its website or Instagram account.
