Nocterra Brewing Co. has temporarily paused operations at both of its Central Ohio locations as the brewery works to determine a path forward for the business.
The brewery’s original location at 41 Depot St. in Powell and its second location at 516 Maier Place in Columbus’ Brewery District, near the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, both closed over the weekend.
Nocterra announced the closures on its social media channels, describing the move as a temporary pause while the company restructures. The announcement came after the brewery’s final shifts at both locations, with the Powell taproom closing Sunday evening and the Audubon location closing Saturday.
The Powell location opened in 2019, marking the beginning of Nocterra’s operations in Central Ohio. Bryan Duncan, Lori Duncan, and Bruce Vivian founded the brewery in 2018. The company later expanded into Columbus, opening its Audubon location in 2024.
The Powell taproom was known for its beer garden, patio, rotating food trucks and location alongside the railroad tracks. Nocterra’s brewery produces a variety of beers, including IPAs, lagers, American sours and hard seltzers.
The Audubon location operated as a brewery and full-service restaurant, offering lunch and dinner, sandwiches, shareables, salads, coffee, cocktails and more than 20 beers on draft. The location also offered weekend brunch and private-event space.
Nocterra’s announcement did not provide a specific reopening date. A notice posted at the Audubon location said the business had “temporarily” paused operations as it restructures, while thanking employees and the community for their support.
The future of the two locations remains unclear. The property housing the Powell brewery was listed for lease shortly after the closure, according to local reporting, while Columbus Business First reported that the Audubon location would not reopen. WOSU noted that it could not independently confirm that report.
Nocterra has not publicly announced whether either location will reopen under its current ownership or structure.
