A new bakery and taqueria concept may be taking shape in Carrollton. According to public filings, a new concept called El Barrio Bakery & Taqueria could open at 1235 S. Josey Lane, Suite 535, with a construction completion date listed as December 2027. Construction is not expected to begin until December 2026, indicating the project is still in its earliest planning stages.
What Now Dallas reached out to tenant Ayman Nafal and his team to inquire about an opening timeline, but did not receive a response prior to publication. Nafal is also President of El Rancho, a well-established Hispanic grocery chain in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The concept’s name points to a dual identity: part Mexican bakery, part taqueria. If the combination holds, it might bring together two cornerstones of Mexican food culture under one roof: freshly baked pan dulce, conchas, and pastries alongside tacos, and street-style Mexican food. Hybrid bakery-taqueria concepts have found loyal followings among both Hispanic communities and a broader audience drawn to authentic, home-style Mexican food.
The Josey Lane corridor in Carrollton is located within one of the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s most culturally diverse suburbs, home to a large and well-established Hispanic community that has long supported independent Mexican restaurants and panaderías. What Now Dallas has recently covered several restaurant openings in Carrollton, including Bafang Dumpling‘s expansion at Carrollton Town Center.
