A popular barbecue restaurant in Cedar Hill, Texas, will close on June 27, 2026. The closure brings an end to one of the area’s best-known family-run smokehouses. Mija Barbecue’s owners shared the news with customers through social media, thanking the community for years of support.

Mija Barbecue Announces Closure

The owners of Mija Barbecue called the closure a difficult decision. The restaurant, located at 406 W. Belt Line Road, began as a backyard barbecue project before growing into a brick-and-mortar business. The owners initially operated through pop-up events and brewery partnerships.

The restaurant became a gathering place for many customers in the community. The announcement did not provide a specific reason for the closure.

As the restaurant prepares to serve its final meal, diners are expected to visit before the closure. Customers responded to the announcement on social media.

One of the diners commented, “This makes me so sad. I’ve been eating Mija’s BBQ since the brewery days. Y’all have always served some of the best BBQ in DFW. Thank you for all the amazing meals!! Wishing your family nothing but success in whatever comes next. Y’all will be greatly missed.”

Mija Barbecue’s journey started in 2019 when husband and wife duo Ryan and Bailey Siegler started with a backyard barbecue. The duo started out serving at pop-up locations and events at Ash & Ember Brewing in Cedar Hill, according to a report by Chron. Their success eventually led them to open a restaurant.

In 2024, the business moved into its brick-and-mortar home, transforming a historic 1938 house into a restaurant. The restaurant developed a customer base in Cedar Hill and the surrounding area.

The restaurant described its cuisine as “Texian,” combining Central Texas-style smoked meats with Mexican flavors. This idea was influenced by the backgrounds of both owners.

What began as a hobby eventually grew into a full-service restaurant.
