Kumasi Supermarket, the African grocery retailer known for its jollof rice, suya meat, plantains and other specialty ingredients, has filed plans for a new location at 2807 W IH 20 in Grand Prairie. According to public filings, the site is tentatively expected to be completed by November 2026, though the timeline could shift.
Kumasi Supermarket has operated in Grand Prairie since 2017, with its existing store located at 2100 S Great Southwest Pkwy, Suite 108. That location is described on its website as an African grocery retail and wholesale distributor, carrying staples sourced from across the African continent, alongside an online storefront.
The new filing places Kumasi along the Interstate 20 corridor in Grand Prairie, a stretch of the city that has seen a mix of retail and community facilities develop in recent years. Whether the new site will function as a second storefront, a distribution hub or something else tied to its wholesale operations has not been confirmed.
Grand Prairie sits within one of the more ethnically diverse pockets of North Texas, and the Great Southwest industrial corridor near the retailer’s original store has become home to a number of specialty grocers and import businesses serving communities across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. A second Kumasi location along IH 20 would put the retailer in a different part of the city from its original storefront.
