A science-backed dance franchise with a mission to bring joy and belonging to young children is coming to Midlothian. According to public filings, Twinkle Star Dance Academy plans to open at 1000 E. Main St., Suite 101, within Midlothian Plaza.
What Now Dallas spoke with franchisee Sheri Payne, a professional dancer and former Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader, who confirmed the targeted opening is in early September 2026, pending permits.
Founded by Tiffany and Paul Henderson, Twinkle Star Dance Academy offers classes for children starting at age two, with a focus on dance positivity through playful, age-appropriate sessions built around joy, confidence, connection, and creative movement.
The brand’s approach is science-backed. It has partnered with the University of Pennsylvania and is currently conducting a study with Stanford University on the benefits of dance, measuring how weekly dance classes can accelerate executive function in three- and four-year-olds.
According to Payne, the Midlothian studio will be the first Twinkle Star location south of Dallas. As a former professional dancer, she said she wanted to return to dance and give back to her community. “I was passionate about dance and wanted to get back involved in it and be a part of my community,” she told What Now Dallas.
When Payne discovered the franchise, she said she immediately knew it was different. “They’re doing something different in the dance world,” she said. That difference is rooted in research.
Previous studies conducted in collaboration with Twinkle Star have shown that 35 to 45 minutes of dance per week can meaningfully improve children’s mood. Students receive progress passports that track their milestones week by week, giving young dancers a tangible sense of growth and pride.
Soon after opening, a holiday showcase is already planned, giving families an early look at what their children have learned. “If they’re looking for a place where their children can belong, build community, and be exposed to the love of dance, this is the place,” Payne said.
Looking ahead, Payne also plans to open a second location in Mansfield within the next year or two.
