The coffee company’s flagship Corktown location may be going through a change.
The owners of James Oliver Coffee announced the team is currently in a dispute with the landlord for their neighborhood shop at 1236 Michigan Avenue, and the future of the location is uncertain. As of now, no agreement has been reached, and they are also planning a bakehouse for the Detroit area. An official address and opening date have not yet been announced.
“We have been working toward a solution that would allow us to remain here, but at this time no agreement has been reached,” said the note at the Corktown location. “While we hope to continue serving you in Corktown we are also preparing for the future, including plans for a new bakehouse location. We are incredibly grateful for the Corktown community and your continued support during this time.”
James Oliver Coffee was started in New Hampshire by co-owner Miranda Clark‘s father, and was later taken over by her and her husband, David Shock. Their other locations are downtown at 534 Griswold Street, in Brush Park, Trenton and Wyandotte. Along with their coffees, baked goods served at cafes include bread and bagels, and sandwiches like bacon, egg and cheese
Their current Corktown coffee spot is near the Route 10 overpass, across from MGM Grand Detroit. This is next to Lager House Grill, and also near Haraz Coffee House. The shop is on the east side of Corktown.
As of now, there has been no official social media announcement about the location’s status or potential move. What Now Detroit has reached out to the owners, and this article may be updated.
