A new all-day sushi spot with music and community is coming to the city.
SushiRitas is a new concept in the works for 5700 Woodward Avenue just north of Midtown. The restaurant’s address has now been revealed, and will serve both fresh sushi and frozen margarita drinks for the community. An opening date has not been released, but the project is under construction.
The restaurant comes from local realtor Jacob Rayford, who also opened Social Sushi Detroit. This started as a pop-up, and plans were abandoned for a Livernois brick-and-mortar. Now, Rayford has found a location and is hard at work to get it open.
From a recent social media post, the walls are painted but the interior is still nearly empty. There looks to be indoor seating, as well as an area in the front for ordering. Planned hours right now are 11 a.m.-midnight Monday through Saturday.
“For too long, ‘development’ has felt like a divide. We built SushiRitas to be the bridge. This is the one sushi location on Woodward where the entire city truly converges—not just to pass through, but to connect,” says the description on their website.
SushiRitas sits at the intersection of Woodward and E Palmer Street. The address is across from Vara Juice, and is next to an apartment complex. This is a busy area of the city as it is a short walk from Wayne State University’s Main Campus, as well as the Detroit Institute of Arts.
What Now Detroit has reached out to the owners and is awaiting comment. Social media pages were recently created including Instagram and Facebook to track progress.
