A Northern Michigan-based gift shop company has found a storefront in the downtown.
Glen Arbor‘s Cherry Republic is bringing their first location to Metro Detroit at 243 W Maple Road in downtown Birmingham. The company currently operates nine locations around the state. VP of Sales and Service Jason Homa told What Now Detroit the team is hoping to debut the new shop by mid-September.
The team at Cherry Republic have been planning the new shop in the Southeast Michigan area for 10 years. Homa said they were first looking at downtown Detroit, but seeing the large amount of shops and foot traffic in downtown Birmingham, they felt this city was the best fit for their brand.
“We feel super good about this,” Homa said.
The gift shop concept first opened in Glen Arbor in 1995, later expanding to Ann Arbor, Charlevoix, Frankenmuth, Holland, Mackinaw City and Traverse City. Their cherry options are extensive, hence the name, with best sellers like dark chocolate covered cherries, ruby red sour cherry patches and their original cherry salsa. Coffees, wines, gift boxes and jams are also available to choose in-store and online.
Cherry Republic is moving in between West Elm furniture store and Tender women’s clothing. This is on the south side of W Maple Road and on the west end of downtown. Many other restaurants and shops are in this immediate area.
“Just found that Birmingham is a great retail community,” Homa said.
