Schlap Muan, a popular wings spot in Long Beach, is heading north. It has plans to open in Monrovia this May, according to a recent Instagram post.

A photograph of the new location indicates that the brand will take over the space formerly home to Burgerim at 1108 S. Fifth Ave. This location will be the second spot for the brand.

Shlap Muan is Khmer for “chicken wings.” Hawk Tea founded the restaurant with his wife in 2018 to escape the corporate grind, starting out with a sandwich concept before pivoting to wings. Tea derives inspiration from his own experiences growing up when his parents worked in a Chinese-Cambodian restaurant.

The wings feature Cambodian and Chinese flavors inspired by Tea’s childhood experiences. Menu items include wok-tossed wings, including Dirty Elvis and Tamarind Tiger, and signature Schlap Muan wings. Sides include garlic noodles and fried rice.
