Francesca’s Pizzeria Has Closed in Great Neck
Francesca’s Pizzeria was a longtime Italian restaurant and pizzeria in New York. It was located at 29 N. Station Plaza, across from the Great Neck LIRR station. The restaurant closed its doors permanently this month after 35 years in the community.
According to its announcement, the restaurant closed its doors on September 13. Francesca’s Pizzeria cited business circumstances as the reason for its closure. However, it did not elaborate on this.
The restaurant also thanked the community for its years of support. Its closure marks the end of an era in the local dining scene.
The Restaurant’s 35-Year Run
Francesca’s Pizzeria has been serving the community since 1991. It was operated by Sal and Rosario, who described the place as a home-style restaurant. The restaurant promoted more than 30 varieties of pizza, including its Pizza Rustica, Grandma’s thin Sicilian, buffalo chicken pizza, and more.
Francesca’s Pizzeria’s menu included pasta dishes, baked specialties, chicken, veal, seafood, eggplant dishes, calzones, heroes, and wraps. Its bread, rolls and garlic knots were baked on the premises, while its food was made to order. The restaurant also offered table service, local delivery, and catering for homes and offices.
The closure of the restaurant left longtime customers disappointed. Some expressed their emotions on social media. They shared their regrets over not being able to visit the restaurant for the last time.
One customer on Facebook wrote, “So sad! We didn’t even get to say goodbye! We will miss you, Rosario and Sal! Are you leaving the business altogether, or starting up elsewhere? Xxxooo Leslie, Bob, Rebecca and Jordan”
Another customer wrote, “Damn, this is sad. I was there last week, and nothing was posted or mentioned. The only good pizza in the area.”
Francesca’s Pizzeria’s closure brings an end to more than three decades of serving the Great Neck community.
