The owners behind the Michelin-recommended Hungry Thirsty in Brooklyn are cooking up a new spot for their regional Thai fare, this time in Chelsea. Set to open at 114 8th Ave., Hungry Spicy will unapologetically serve up the spicy flavors of Southern Thailand.

“This isn’t ‘spicy for fun’,” says a post on the official Hungry Spicy Instagram. “This is the kind of heat we actually eat in the South of Thailand. Bold, intense, no shortcuts!!”

While one Instagram post says owners Angie Ruangphung and Sun Kulaptip had planned to open in May, a more recent one from the end of May shows the owners hard at work building out their space. An opening date has not been announced, and What Now New York has reached out for more information.

Hungry Thirsty is a relaunch of the acclaimed Thai restaurant Ugly Baby, where Ruangphung and Kulaptip were employees. That restaurant pioneered bold Thai dishes at a time when the cuisine in New York was largely defined by approachable classics like pad Thai and green curry.
