Gourmet Burger Bistro has announced its permanent closure in Port Jefferson. The restaurant was located at 5 Mill Creek Road in Port Jefferson, New York. It closed after 18 years in the community, leaving many longtime customers disappointed.
The closure was announced in a social media post from the restaurant. In the post, owner Mike Napoli reflected on the restaurant’s history in Port Jefferson. He thanks everyone who has been a part of Gourmet Burger Bistro’s journey.
Mike also apologized for not informing the customers about the restaurant’s closure beforehand. In the post, Napoli wrote, “Today was the first day that Gourmet Burger Bistro did not open its doors. I am truly sorry and apologize that I didn’t announce this sooner, but I didn’t realize how emotionally difficult this was going to be to write.”
He looked back on the memories the space holds and the occasions it has witnessed. From birthdays, first dates, and celebrations, Gourmet Burger Bistro became a home for countless memories. However, he did not share the reason behind the closure.
The news of the closure evoked reactions from some longtime customers. One customer on Instagram commented, “Hard to imagine this; we appreciate you so much, Mike. The best chicken fingers and loaded fries on the island. GBB forever!”
Another customer wrote, “Great food and amazing people. GBB will definitely be missed in Port Jeff. Wishing you nothing but the best in what’s next!”

Gourmet Burger Bistro was established in 2008 in Port Jefferson and described itself as a restaurant that is “reinventing the burger.” It combined traditional and more creative burger styles with a bistro-style setting. Its burger-focused menu went beyond standard cheeseburgers.
Some of the featured burgers included GBB Smash Burger, Bistro Burger, Inside Out Burger, Triple Smoked Burger, and Stuffed Blue Cheese Burger. Its menu also included wings, mussels, fried mozzarella, pretzel sticks, and more. It also had a Build-A-Burger option where customers could choose among beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie, and vegan plant patties.
What’s Next for the Location
According to Napoli, a new concept will come after Gourmet Burger Bistro’s closure. A new owner plans to open a different restaurant concept in the Port Jefferson space. However, the new owner and concept have not yet been publicly identified.
The closure ends Gourmet Burger Bistro’s 18-year run in Port Jefferson.
