What’s Next for the Space
The shutdown of Tequila’s Comida & Cantina Waterfront gives way to a new concept to replace the waterfront restaurant. A report by WWAY News indicates that the new business will be led by Giorgios Bakatsias and the Giorgios Hospitality Group.
Details about the new concept have not yet been disclosed, but more information is expected in the coming weeks. The new concept is expected to provide a distinct dining experience to the Marina District of downtown Wilmington.
About the Restaurant

Tequila’s Comida & Cantina Waterfront was a joint venture between Tequila Comida & Cantina and Marina Grill. The idea was founded on providing a more sophisticated Mexican cuisine, with a mix of authenticity and a more modern and coastal vibe.
Established by Chef Ramon and Miguel Villasenor, the restaurant was located next to Riverfront Park and overlooking the Port City Marina. It was designed with large outdoor seating, a rooftop patio, and a dedicated tequila lounge. Guests enjoyed live music, a waterfront view, and food.
The menu featured a variety of Mexican and Latin-themed foods. The menu was paired with handcrafted cocktails and a selection of tequilas and mezcals, including blanco, reposado, añejo, and specialty varieties.
The owners of Tequila’s Waterfront have two sister concepts in Wilmington. One is Marina Grill, and another is with the same name, Tequila Comida & Cantina at 5607 Carolina Beach Road #130.
The closure of Tequila’s Waterfront is the beginning of a new era of waterfront dining in Wilmington. Although the departure of the restaurant leaves a void, the neighborhood is now hopeful for what stands next at the space.
