Philadelphia’s dining scene is welcoming back a familiar favorite: Toll Man Joe’s.
“After years of searching, we found our dream home at 12th & Pine in Washington Square West—the former home of the iconic and beloved neighborhood favorite, Mixto,” a social media announcement read.
Toll Man Joe’s originally opened in South Philadelphia in 2016 before closing in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leading the restaurant’s next chapter are original founder and owner Lori Penrose, General Manager and Director of Brand & Operations Shannon Penrose, and Executive Chef Arturo Bermudez Luna, who has been with the team since day one.
After closing the original restaurant, the team launched a BYOB pop-up restaurant in Woolwich, New Jersey. The Woolwich location will continue operating alongside the new Philadelphia restaurant.
The full-service restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, blending Philadelphia comfort food favorites with globally inspired flavors.
Toll Man Joe’s will also bring back its award-winning wings, available in 18 flavors ranging from classics like Buffalo, barbecue and garlic Parmesan to inventive options such as Street Corn, topped with chili-lime seasoning, cotija, chipotle aioli and Hot Cheetos crumble, and General Tso, finished with a wasabi drizzle.
Behind the bar, guests can expect an approachable cocktail menu, local brews and a curated wine list.
The new venue aims to once again serve as a welcoming gathering place where the community can enjoy great food, drinks and sports. The team also plans to host live music, special events and private gatherings.
“We anticipate opening our doors within the next few weeks—just in time for football season! Words cannot express how excited we are to see all of you again. Cheers!” the post read.
