Portland’s Robo Taco to Close After 15 Years

A beloved, casual Mexican taqueria located in Portland’s Central Eastside has announced its closure. Jason Price opened Robo Taco in 2011, drawing inspiration from Mexican street food.

Located at 607 SE Morrison St., Robo Taco became known for its late-night service and Mexican menu. The menu includes authentic Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos, and enchiladas. The restaurant also offers a full bar program.

The owner announced the closure in a social media post. According to the announcement, the restaurant will close its doors permanently after serving its last meal on July 26.

Talking about the closure, the restaurant owner shared, “I have been fighting this fight for all of you to see from day one in late 2011, and let me tell you, it has been incredible in all ways, from transcendentally joyful to bone-crushingly depressingly sad.”

Community’s Responses to the Announcement

Following the closure announcement, several restaurant customers expressed their disappointment on social media. Some shared heartfelt messages and cherished memories in the comments.

“Thank you for bringing together and taking care of so many people in the 503! Robo Taco has been a true Portland staple amongst hundreds of establishments that have popped up in the Portland area since 2011,” commented one customer.

The owner thanked customers for their support and said he hopes to return with a new concept in the future.

“If there is a bright side to this, it’s that I am taking time off of prepping and running the shop in order to (hopefully) return with a better bag of tricks for you to enjoy in the future,” stated the restaurant owner.

For its final days of operation, the restaurant owner encourages the community to visit one more time. The Robo Taco team looks forward to celebrating its last chapter with love and food.
