Galleria + Grotto, a new restaurant and bar concept from A2Z Jupiter, is coming to 830 E Burnside Street inside the legendary Jupiter Hotel in Portland’s Buckman neighborhood. Project manager Hussein Zayoun and Aydin Kharaghani confirmed to What Now Portland that the venue is opening in the coming months, with more details about the concept to be released soon.

The address carries significant Portland history. The space was previously home to the Doug Fir Lounge, the restaurant, bar, and live music venue that operated inside the Jupiter Hotel for two decades after the hotel’s 2004 opening. The Doug Fir became a cultural institution in its own right, a late-night anchor on East Burnside known for its warm wood interior, its day menu, and a basement stage that hosted some of Portland’s most memorable intimate live shows. Its departure left one of the most distinctive restaurant footprints on the eastside sitting empty, waiting for the right concept to give it a second life.

The name Galleria + Grotto hints at a dual identity, a gallery-style public space paired with something more intimate and tucked away, which would fit naturally with the layered architecture of the Jupiter Hotel building and its surrounding courtyard.
