New activities were seen at 1800 24th Street, the site of a proposed mid-sized music venue by Another Planet Entertainment called Channel 24. Multiple outlets have reported the news. According to KCRA, the venue is expected to open in early 2025.
The KCRA article mentioned that the area urgently needs mid-sized music venues, according to results from the 2023 Sacramento Music Census, indicating small-to-mid-sized venues that can serve as incubators for emerging artists are absent in Sacramento.
Orfginally approved in 2022, Channel 24’s site development is spearheaded by Sacramento-based firm SKK Developments, and architecture is handled by Ellis Architects. SKK’s EVP Alberto Esquivel appears to be the project’s applicant on materials submitted to the City of Sacramento. Original application materials state that the scope includes building a “42,700-square-foot building [that] will replace an existing vacant industrial/commercial building and will house a stage, box office, lobby, concessions, mezzanine and artist amenities and dressing rooms”
Additionally, the latest plans and application materials submitted to the City of Sacramento suggest that Channel 24 will be equipped with multiple bars with various food offerings. The building’s maximum capacity is 2,150 people and the venue will be segmented into the main venue, a VIP area, an open-air patio in the upstairs, and a tiered balcony area.
Another Planet Entertainment is a bay-area-based independent concert production and artist management company. What Now Sacramento sent an email inquiry to company president Allen Scott but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage.
