Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort, at 676 McCauley Ranch Rd in Angels Camp is under new ownership. Sierra Golf Management, a Chowchilla-based company that owns and operates golf courses across California, has purchased the resort wich includes a restaurant called Camp Restaurant and is set to reopen it on June 19, according to the company’s COO Dan Bacci, who confirmed the sale to What Now Sacramento.
The restaurant and bar located on the property will open alongside the course. Bacci said no major renovations are planned for the dining space, though some minor changes will be made as the new management gets its footing. Final decisions on the menu, hours of operation, and food concept are still being worked out.
“We’ll be open right away with basic food, probably similar to what they’re doing now with a few minor changes,” Bacci said. “We just haven’t made our decisions yet on a final menu.”
Greenhorn Creek first debuted as an 18-hole, semi-private golf course and restaurant in June 1996. The course was originally designed by Don Boos and later redesigned by Robert Trent Jones II. Sitting at 1,500 feet elevation in Calaveras County, the resort sits in the heart of California’s Gold Country, the same foothills where Mark Twain wrote The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and is surrounded by more than 35 local wineries.
The acquisition adds to an already busy stretch for Sierra Golf Management, which has been expanding rapidly across the state. The company, founded in 1996, recently added Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione, Ripon Golf Club, and Avondale Golf Club in Palm Desert to its portfolio, bringing its total to more than 15 California properties.
