The name draws on the word haveli, which refers to a traditional courtyard mansion found across North India and Pakistan, often associated with old family estates in regions like Punjab. Restaurants using the name typically lean into that heritage, building menus and decor around Punjabi and North Indian cuisine, and the Cheema surname itself is common among Punjabi families, suggesting a similar direction here.
The license traces back to a location previously tied to Ruthy’s Bar and Oven, though the new address places this concept in a busy stretch of Colusa Highway shared with In-N-Out Burger, Walmart, Sam’s Club, WinCo Foods and Target, an area that draws steady traffic from both local shoppers and travelers passing through on the corridor.
Yuba City already has an established Indian restaurant scene, including Haveli Authentic Indian Food on Oswald Road and the former Taste of India Bombay Lounge that closed at the same address as Cheemas Havelli.
