An upscale and highly rated Italian restaurant is closing its Rio Linda location permanently. The Grotto will serve its final dinner today, Tuesday, August 11. The restaurant cited rising costs, mounting debt, and financial challenges in its closure announcement.
The Grotto to Close Permanently After Final Service
The farm-to-table restaurant, known for its Italian-American fusion, is shuttering. The Grotto features custom pizzas and specialty sandwiches, along with a full bar with an extensive selection of wine, craft cocktails, and local beers.
Natalee Price, a Rio Linda native, established the restaurant in 2025, according to a Rio Linda news report.
Located at 960 Oak Lane in Rio Linda, California, The Grotto confirmed its permanent closure on August 10, after more than one year of operation.
As per the official social media announcement, the restaurant is scheduled to serve its last dinner on August 11.
In the closure announcement, the team said, “Our goodbye is coming sooner than we hoped.”
The restaurant will remain open through Tuesday and host the last round of Team Trivia with Abby. The restaurant team encourages the community members to stop in one last time before its permanent closure.
“Come give some hugs. Eat a great meal. Raise a glass. Make a few last memories with us—and help us sell out the food and drinks we have left,” added the team.

Reason for the Closure
The Rio Linda Online report cited rising costs and financial challenges as the reason for its sudden closure. The report stated that the restaurant reduced its hours to cut operating costs.
The restaurant said sales had increased over the previous week, but the improvement was not enough to sustain the business.
“We’ve reached the point where staying open means placing more orders, taking on more debt, and risking our ability to meet our obligations to our employees. That is a line we are not willing to cross,” said the restaurant.
Even though short-lived, The Grotto has left a lasting impression on the Rio Linda dining community.
