Smash’d is preparing to significantly expand its San Antonio restaurant, with owners Rick Greenfield and Erin Tireman planning to nearly double the venue’s capacity as the popular burger and live music destination continues to grow.
According to a permit recently filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project is planned for 520 E. Grayson St. and will include a 1,200-square-foot addition to the existing 1,000-square-foot restaurant. Construction is scheduled to begin on August 1, 2026, with completion currently targeted for November 30, 2026. The renovation carries an estimated construction cost of $200,000.
The permit lists the project as a privately funded addition to the existing building. River North Ventures LLC is listed as the property owner, while Studio S Architekts is serving as the design firm.
In a statement shared with What Now San Antonio, co-owner Erin Tireman said the expansion is a direct response to the community’s continued support since Smash’d first opened.
“The owners and staff at Smash’d are so appreciative and excited about what Smash’d has brought to San Antonio with a great space to come together, have great food and drinks and enjoy local live music,” Tireman said.
“The San Antonio community has shown their appreciation through continued growth in new and repeat customers, and Smash’d is responding with an exciting expansion that will increase interior and exterior space as well as our ability to serve a larger audience with an expanded kitchen.”
According to Tireman, while the restaurant’s footprint is growing, the concept itself will remain unchanged.
“We are expanding our space to continue to provide a great place for everyone to come and enjoy local live music and delicious food, drinks and a fantastic vibe,” she said. “Nothing changes except the space to serve people is about to double in size.”
The owners expect to remain open throughout most of the construction process, although a temporary closure will be required while work is completed on the expanded kitchen. The timing of that closure has not yet been determined, and updates will be shared through the restaurant’s social media channels as construction progresses.
Looking ahead, Tireman said the investment reflects the owners’ long-term commitment to San Antonio’s dining and entertainment scene.
“We plan to be a part of the San Antonio restaurant and live music community for a very long time, and we can’t wait to bring you an even better experience,” she said. “The construction will be challenging, but on the other side will be a place that San Antonians can enjoy together, and we can’t wait to serve you.”
