Doughboy’s Grill, a new restaurant from the same team behind BBQ House OB, is preparing to open in Ocean Beach at 4994 Newport Ave.

Previously, What Now San Diego reported that D’lish Restaurant had closed its doors, allowing the ownership team to reopen OB Kabob, a family-owned and operated Middle Eastern restaurant that closed early last year. While this news was told to What Now directly by the owners, it appears the space will be repurposed for a new concept. Now, Doughboy’s Grill will occupy the former D’Lish Express/OB Kabob location on Bacon Street, bringing a fresh, lively energy to the area. This is the latest from the team behind BBQ House OB, consisting of Abdoul Attalah and his sons, Melvin and Davin. It’s unclear exactly when this new restaurant is expected to open, but the owners are in the final construction steps, hoping to open in Spring 2025.

Doughboy’s Grill promises to offer more than great food — it will be a new gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. The menu at Doughboy’s Grill will feature a selection of classic comfort foods with a twist. Expect wood-fired pizzas, delicious burgers, and crispy wings with various inventive sauces. Each dish will be made with fresh ingredients and bold flavors, ensuring an excellent experience for all who stop by. With the same dedication to high-quality food and service that made BBQ House OB a local favorite, Doughboy’s Grill will surely become another destination in the Ocean Beach area.

“We are excited to open soon,” co-owner Mel Atallah said recently on a social media post. “We will be serving smash burgers with meat that we will grind fresh every day. Pizza will be made with a thinner style crust and the freshest ingredients. We will offer chicken, steak, and pastrami Philly’s! Buffalo-infused wings and more. We will be serving nothing but quality grub for the community that we have been serving for 34 years now at BBQ House OB. We love this community and hope to see you all soon to try the new spot.”
