El Viejon Seafood, a local restaurant that recently expanded for the first time, is preparing to open a new location in Mira Mesa at 9837 Mira Mesa Boulevard.
The company’s third location is set to replace Manila Sunset Grille within Scripps Mesa Retail Center, according to SanDiegoVille. This is the latest from Luis and Angelica Gonzalez, who also own Lupes Mexican Eatery and Holy Paleta. The husband-and-wife team now plans to open another El Viejon Seafood location. Luis tells What Now San Diego that this site is expected to open in mid-November. The company recently opened its second location in the Millenia Town Center plaza of Chula Vista.
When the new Mira Mesa location opens later this year, customers can expect a menu of Mexican seafood dishes with an Asian twist, “exotic” seafood towers, and seafood tacos. El Viejon Seafood specializes in mariscos, a menu based on traditional seafood specialties from Sinaloa and Baja, including raw plates featuring scallops or chocolate clams, fiery agua chiles, and Ensenada-style fish and lobster tacos. To differentiate El Viejon from other mariscos spots, each dish has an Asian flavor or ingredient, from daikon radish to sesame seeds to spicy oil made with peanuts and arbol chiles.
Customers can also expect an interactive, fast-casual counter with a menu with various sauces and a build-your-own ceviche option. There is also a variety of beer, Micheladas, margaritas, bottled Mexican sodas, and craft agua frescas. The restaurant takes pride in its innovation and comes up with new concepts and challenges. This is an exciting development for Mira Mesa, considering El Viejon Seafood serves the highest quality seafood with only the best ingredients. This concept is not to be confused with El Viejon Birria & Seafood in Bonita at 4026 Bonita Rd.
