Brute Force Games, a San Diego game store specializing in Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, board games, and Dungeons & Dragons, is expanding into East County with a second location in La Mesa, according to an announcement on the store’s social media.

The new store will be located near the Grossmont Center Drive freeway exit, next to Guitar Center.

“Surprise, we’re opening a second location!” the store announced. “We’re so excited to be heading to La Mesa and can’t wait to play games with you!”

What Now San Diego reached out to owner Sean Johnson to inquire about the opening timeline but did not receive a response before press time. In a Facebook post, the store said it would be working toward the opening over the next couple of months and would share updates along the way.

Brute Force Games first opened at 3755 Murphy Canyon Road in Murphy Canyon, where it sells trading card games, board games, and tabletop role-playing games.

The store operates seven days a week and offers in-store play, as well as buying and selling, giving customers a place to play and connect with other enthusiasts.

The La Mesa location will extend the store’s reach into East County, bringing its selection of games and in-store activities to a new community. Interest in tabletop gaming and trading card games has also been reflected in other local openings.

What Now San Diego recently covered the upcoming opening of Big Dog Gaming Center, another gaming business catering to enthusiasts. Both projects point to continued investment in spaces where players can purchase games and gather to play.
