Home Depot, the national home improvement retailer, is getting ready to open a new location in San Diego’s Mission Valley neighborhood at 1545 Camino del Rio South.
The new store is set to move into the former home of the Scottish Rite Center, according to construction at the site. The development has been in the works for several years, following the approval of the Mission Valley Community Plan Update in 2019. Representatives from Home Depot tell WhatNow San Diego that the company expects to open the Mission Valley location in Summer 2026 and that customers can expect a full-service home improvement store with a garden center and expanded parking.
Construction is now well underway at the site, which sits along Camino del Rio South just east of Texas Street. The project includes a roughly 125,000-square-foot retail store and garden center, along with a 155,000-square-foot parking structure. The development is highly visible from Interstate 8, where the steel-and-concrete framework of the parking garage has already taken shape.
Before redevelopment, the property was occupied by the Scottish Rite Center and the adjacent former Bowlero bowling alley. The bowling center dates back to the 1950s and 1960s and was once promoted as the largest fully automatic bowling center in the United States. According to project documents, the property was not designated as a historic resource by the City of San Diego’s Historical Resources Board.
The Mission Valley store is one of 12 new Home Depot locations scheduled to open across the country in 2026. Other planned openings include stores in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, Florida, and Tennessee. According to the company, the expansion comes as Home Depot continues investing in its store network and customer experience initiatives nationwide.
“We’re excited about all of the progress we’ve made in our stores. And our efforts are paying off. In 2025, our customer satisfaction scores increased every quarter, and our tenure with hourly associates is the highest it’s been since 2017,” said Ann-Marie Campbell, Senior Executive Vice President, The Home Depot.
