According to a recent permit application, a new Mexican restaurant called Taqueria Los Altos is coming to Oakland. The eatery will debut at 6638 Bancroft Avenue, near Egg Roll Kitchen, Mi Zacatecas Mexican Food, and Tasty Szechuan.

Maricel Aguirre, the wife of Managing Partner Roberto Aguirre, tells What Now San Francisco, “We’re going to have tacos rooted in cuisine from Los Altos, Jalisco. On weekends we’ll have pozole, menudo on Sundays, and other specialties such as birria.”

For readers who haven’t yet had the opportunity to try traditional food from Jalisco, the state is known for its stews and “drowned” plates, as well as its production of tequila.

The eatery will offer 25 to 30 seats, but the kitchen is ample enough to take on more should a need or opportunity arise.

Aguirre says that the permits are taking longer than expected and have been delayed for several weeks. In regards to an opening date, she shares, “We have all of our appliances and are ready to work, but it’s out of our hands at this point.” Stay tuned for additional updates.
