A Northern California hot pot chain is preparing to exit the Bay Area. Shabu Shack announced the permanent closure of its Bay Area restaurant. The chain is ending its journey in the region after a short run, while other locations continue to serve diners.

Shabu Shack Will Soon Serve Its Final Customers

Shabu Shack at 200 Grand Ave in South San Francisco confirmed the closure through a social media post on June 17. The restaurant’s final day of service will be June 22, marking the end of the brand’s only Bay Area location.

In the Instagram post, the restaurant team shared the news with “heavy hearts” and thanked customers for their support.

The South San Francisco restaurant is the brand’s first and only location outside of the Sacramento region. Shabu Shack currently maintains restaurants in Elk Grove, Downtown Sacramento, and Davis.

Shabu Shack was established to promote the Japanese-style hot pot experience with interactive Japanese cuisine. Guests can customize their meals by choosing from a selection of broths, meats, seafood, vegetables, noodles, and house-made sauces.

The menu also includes appetizers, specialty beverages, and seasonal offerings designed to encourage a communal dining experience.

While the restaurant has not publicly shared a reason for the closure, the announcement has prompted an outpouring of support from customers on social media. Diners expressed disappointment at losing one of the area’s dedicated hot pot destinations.

The restaurant encouraged customers to visit before its final day of service, writing, “We are truly grateful for the love our South San Francisco community has shown us. Please come enjoy one last meal with us before we close our doors for good.”
